Tales of the Veiled Rose
Tales of the Veiled Rose is a series of dark, gothic-inspired fantasy short stories and novelettes set in and around the civil war-ravaged nation of Eldoria. The tales center upon Anya Petrova, a warrior nun whose burnished armor, ornate helm shaped to resemble an impassive feminine face with eyes hidden behind hands, and wicked mace fashioned in the shape of a bouquet of roses, serves as a protector of those beset by fiends, monsters, and mortal corruption.
Fans of The Witcher, Dark Souls, and similar media should consider these stories.

Vile Communion
It all starts in a tavern…
While en route to the town of Byrnview to help rid them of a gloomstalker, a fiend who slips through shadows to hunt its prey, Anya Petrova stops at a travelers’ inn, the Prancing Peacock. While she dines in silence, she overhears locals from the nearby village of Falspire lamenting “those who come in the night” and steal their children.
The next morning, Anya awakes to find the inn deserted, the doors locked from the inside, and trails of blood leading from the rooms to the kitchen and then down to the cellar. In the cellar, she finds no root vegetables, kegs of beer, or casks of wine. Instead, she finds a cell where several children and travelers are imprisoned. There, she learns of a cult worshiping a dark god who believe ritual sacrifice, eating human flesh, and drinking human blood together will allow them to transcend the limitations of the frailty of mortal bodies.
It seems Byrnview will have to wait…
